Heb 2

6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?

Sometimes, I get to thinking about our place in the scheme of things. Why does God bother with us? What makes us so special that he would care what we do? Whether we choose good or evil? Many in the world don't even believe that He does care. Some, if they believe in God at all, believe that He just created the universe, set it in motion and walked away. Isn't he so much greater than us that we should mean nothing to him? Of course, as believers, we understand that nothing could be farther from the truth. God really does care about us because he loves us.

He created us in His image as we read in:

Gen 1:26-30

As soon as God created man, he gave him commands to follow.

Gen 2:7-25

Of course, soon after this, man began breaking the commands God had given him. This sin began to distance man from God. Only later, through Christ was this relationship repaired.

And from the beginning of creation God has been so amazingly far above us in his ways. But even still, throughout history men have made the mistake of thinking that God physically existed in inanimate ways on this earth...and they would worship him in the form of idolatry.

We are told to flee from idolatry

1 Corinthians 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and mans device.

Worshipping God in physical form in these inanimate objects is an effort to bring God down to our level. Almost to make him something under our control. But this is not possible. In fact, it should be the other way around. We should be under His control.

Sometimes, God almost seems to be bragging in the bible. He makes proclamations about himself that might sound proud from a human perspective. But would I be bragging if I were comparing my abilities to those of an infant and it turned out that I had more abilities? Of course, we don't usually compare ourselves to small children. But if we did, it might sound like bragging. You know, given some training, I can figure out some pretty complicated math. Look at a baby. A baby can't even add a couple of numbers.

And so God's ways are above our ways. He knew enough to create us, so no knowledge we have can even compare to his.

God says in

Isaiah 55

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Apparently, as we read in Colossians, Paul wrote about a problem where people were worshipping angels.

Col 2:18

It may be that these people thought God was so great that they shouldn't even worship Him directly. But they made a severe mistake in worshipping angels as n interface between people and God.

Paul even mentions that we will judge the angels

1 Cor 6

2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church.

So, to remind the church there that they would be capable of judging matters in the church, he reminded them that in the end, they'd even be judging the angels.

The only way between people and God is Jesus Christ.

Jesus himself said this:

John 14

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Paul wrote that Jesus makes intercession for us.

Romans 8

34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Jesus Christ is the way between us and God. If we try to come to God through some other means than Christ (for example, through angels), then we are not worthy. Only Christ's blood clears the way for us to come to God. This is why we say our prayers in Jesus' name.

God put us in the hierarchy between Jesus and the angels. This probably isn't what we would naturally think...we'd probably think those heavenly beings, the angels, would be above us.

It would also be wrong to think of religious leaders of the world as an interface to God

Mat 23:8-10

So we must realize that our worship belongs only to God the father through Jesus Christ the son.

You see, since God is so great...so far above us, he sent his son to be one of us...to be a human and yet God, the son of man. We can't say that God doesn't understand us. Jesus came down to this world and was tempted as badly as any of us has ever been and yet he didn't give in.

Let's look in

Romans 8:14-17

So we are joint-heirs with Christ. As far as I know, this relationship with God is very unique to Christianity. This is who we are. This is why God is mindful of us. We are his children.

Let's look back at Hebrews the 2nd chapter where we looked at our first verse and we'll see another reference to us that even says that Jesus calls us his brothers. Of course, we know he is our master from numerous scriptures. But here he is also referred to as our brother.

Heb 2:5-13

This makes it pretty clear that we are in God's family with Jesus.

I won't take time to turn to it right now, but the church's relationship with Christ is also compared to a wife's relationship with her husband. Whatever the case we can easily say that we are in God's family through Jesus Christ.

God even uses men for his purposes when they are unwilling to serve him. We can think about the example of the pharaoh mentioned in

Romans 9:6-33

We are reminded here that God is so far above us, that it is not even our place to ask why he does things. If he wishes to use people or situations to make his might known, as he did many times in the old testament, then who are we to ask him why or credit him with unrighteousness?

So in conclusion, God is all-powerful. He is so great and mighty and far above us that it's amazing that he even pays attention to us. And yet he has claimed us as his children through Jesus Christ. We have become the family of God. mindful of us because we are his children through Christ. We are not unimportant to him. He cares for us as his children.
